It's always summer

          It's always summer when you
stare into the deep glossy finish of a wood boat.
You can't help but want to touch it.
I can't tell you how many times someone had walked into the varnish room and the first thing they do is reach out there hand to touch the boat. "Wet Varnish" you yell, to snap them out of the trance that the glossy liquid surface has placed them in. But that is just one of the facets that make wood boats so intriguing.

I wonder sometimes if back in the day when all there were was wooden boats, if they were held in the same regard or were they just considered boats. The shame of it is, today the materials to build these beauties are becoming scarce.  Mahogany and teak in the quality needed to build these boats is hard to find and is quickly disappearing from the lumber market.  Enjoy these boats while they are around, go to the wooden boat shows around the area this summer take in the art and beauty of wooden boats - cherish it while they are here.

A lot has changed at Brightwork Boat Works in the past year.  We were bought by               The Boat House of Madison, which has expanded the capabilities of Brightwork Boat Works to have a large brokerage of beautiful wooden boats, along with expanded mechanical services and the ability to work on sail boats also.
